Malta pilgrimage – ‘In the Footsteps of St Paul’
The Rev David Humphries invites you to follow ‘In the Footsteps of St Paul’ on a six-day pilgrimage to Malta in October 2027.
David was rector of Kilbride Parish from 2016 until his retirement in 2023. He has led pilgrimages to the Holy Land for more than 25 years. The Malta trip will run from October 12-19 next year. Early booking will be rewarded with a reduction in the overall cost of the pilgrimage.
The brochure for this pilgrimage states: “Malta holds a unique place in Christian history. It was here, in 60 AD, that St Paul was shipwrecked on his voyage to Rome – and here that the gospel first took hold on this extraordinary island.
“We invite you to explore the very sites where Paul sheltered, preached and healed, from his grotto in Rabat to the island that bears his name.
“Highlights include the golden city of Valletta – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – with its magnificent St John’s Cathedral and the awe-inspiring Mosta Dome. We visit the silent walled city of Mdina, enjoy a fregatina tour of the historic harbours, and travel by private boat to St Paul’s Island itself.
“This is a pilgrimage of deep history, living faith and extraordinary beauty.”
David grew up in Belfast and attended St Bartholomew’s Parish Church, Stranmillis. He was a music and RE teacher, and also organist in St Mary’s, Crumlin Road, and Stranmillis, before ordination in 1986.
He was curate in Ballyholme, Vicar Choral at Belfast Cathedral, and rector of St Molua’s, Stormont, for 23 years before moving to Kilbride.
Last year, he retired from the Down & Dromore and Connor Organ Scholarship Board of Management having been a member for some 30 years.
