Ballyclare’s CMSI Partnership goes from strength to strength

Sunday June 7 was a day of celebration within the United Parish of Ballynure & Ballyeaston (Ballyclare), as a new three-year partnership plan was unveiled with CMSI [Church Mission Society Ireland].
For a number of years, both St John’s, Ballyclare, and Christ Church, Ballynure, have been deepening its relationship with the Tujisaidie community located in Nairobi, Kenya. This has involved visits by a number of the Kenyans to Northern Ireland and also the rector, the Rev Jonny Campbell-Smyth’s visit to Nairobi in 2023.
The partnership that has been growing also involves much more, Jonny said.
“A partnership in the Gospel of Jesus Christ is far more than receiving information about another part of the world. This important partnership is two-way. We pray for our brothers and sisters in Tujisaidie, but also they are praying for us. We keep in regular contact and learn from each other’s ministries,” he said.
“The last three years have established important foundations which we now are excited to build upon, under God’s guidance.”
CMSI’s Partnership Co-ordinator, Roger Thompson, joined the churches on June 7 to provide an update on the projects in Nairobi, and taught the congregations a new song both in English and in Swahili. There was also an opportunity for a link with Nairobi so that Antony Njoroge, from the Tumaini Project, could lead the congregation in the Bible reading.
The new three-year partnership plan will include opportunities for online Bible studies, prayers recorded to be led at each other’s churches, online youth gatherings, a new annual conference bringing together churches in Ireland that have a link with Tujisaidie, an annual service using Kenyan liturgy, a team visit to Kenya in 2028 and a possible longer-term placement to Kenya.
