Connor Mothers’ Union Diocesan President Alison Skillen addressing Connor Synod on June 25.
In celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of Mothers’ Union by Mary Sumner in 1876 in Old Alresford rectory, Hampshire, All Ireland MU President, Kay Clarke, has set an anniversary challenge – ‘150 Psalms in 150 Days.’
Highlighting this challenge to members of Connor Diocesan Synod, Connor MU President Alison Skillen explained that this began on May 1 and will run until September.
Alison said: “Kay has succeeded in getting 150 MU members and supporters to record and share on the MU All Ireland Facebook page each day a reading of one of the Psalms, along with a short, often personal, reflection about that Psalm. Each Psalm is available to listen to every evening from 7pm.”
If you check THIS LINK before 7pm today (Tuesday), you will find Alison herself reading the current daily Psalm.
Alison told Synod that she and seven other Mothers’ Union members from Connor had had the privilege of attending at the 150th anniversary thanksgiving service in St Paul’s Cathedral, London, on June 10. At this, the Archbishop of Canterbury in her address described MU as ‘the powerhouse of the Anglican Communion.”
Addressing Synod delegates, Alison said: “If you feel called to support the ongoing work of this ‘powerhouse,’ there is an opportunity to scan the accompanying QR code or link in the Facebook video. All money raised for the 150th anniversary initiative will be used to support MU projects in Britain and Ireland.”
